Garth Nash

Managing Director

Garth Nash is the co-founder and Managing Director of New Road Capital, a business he launched in 2019 with a vision to better support financial advisers with practical, independent investment solutions. Before diving into the world of entrepreneurship, Garth spent over a decade in finance and investments, building his experience in everything from advising private clients to helping shape how financial planners approach investment advice.

He kicked off his career in 2008 as Head of Finance at the University of Pretoria, and later joined Liberty Group, where he fine-tuned his skills in structuring investment plans and working with adviser networks across the country. Along the way, he’s also taken on strategic consulting projects for big-name companies in South Africa and the U.S.

Garth holds a various bachelors and honours degrees including a B. Com, a Postgrad Diploma in Financial Planning, and an MBA, though he’ll tell you his most valuable lessons came from real-world experience (and the occasional misstep). When he’s not in the office, you’ll find him on a golf course, exploring the bush, discovering new wine farms, or trying to keep up with his son Ulrich on a mountain bike. He shares these adventures with his wife, Karien, who still somehow laughs at his dad jokes.

Paul Fouché

Chief Investment Officer

Paul Fouché is the Chief Investment Officer and co-founder of New Road Capital. Paul has a wealth of experience in the financial advisory and investment management industry, from client facing advisory roles to the technical aspects of portfolio management and asset allocation. After graduating with an Honours Degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Pretoria in 2007, Paul started his career as a production manager in the manufacturing industry.

In 2010, he joined the Liberty Group as a financial planner focusing on constructing portfolios for high net-worth clients. This is where he and Garth met and formed their friendship. Paul moved into a management role, whereby he managed a team of financial advisers and built up a large client investment book. During this time Paul obtained his CFA charter, and in 2016 he entered the private wealth management industry whereby he managed personal share portfolios and model portfolios for high net-worth clients.

In 2019 he co-founded New Road Capital with Garth, as a business that could materialize their vision of providing holistic and unique portfolio management services to financial advisers and their end clients. Paul is an avid cyclist and enjoys both mountain biking and road riding. When he is not looking at markets, he, and his wife Raine spend much of their spare time at various cycling events around the country.

Michael Caroline

Investment Analyst

Michael joined as an investment analyst and has an MPhil (Financial Management Sciences) cum laude specialising in economic psychology and has passed the CFA level 3 exam. Prior to starting at New Road Capital, he worked as assistant lecturer at the University of Pretoria assisting with quantitative investment analysis. He has built and traded on models using CFDs. Outside of work, he enjoys flying motor gliders from Springs airfield as well as sailing his Laser class sailboat.

Sarah Turner

Investment Specialist

Sarah has obtained her Honours degree in Investment Management. Her areas of interest include portfolio management and asset valuation, which were the
primary focus of her studies. As an investment specialist, Sarah takes great
satisfaction in consulting with clients and discussing a range of investment-related topics. Beyond her professional pursuits, Sarah nurtures her creative talents through the practice of embroidery. This meticulous art form allows her to exercise her eye for detail and artistic air. Additionally, baking serves as both a passionate hobby and creative outlet for Sarah. She enjoys the process of experimenting with new recipes and baking techniques to craft delectable treats.

Louise Volschenk

Investment Specialist

Louise joined the New Road Capital team after graduating with a BCom (Hons)
Investment Management degree from the University of Pretoria. She is a very ambitious and driven individual and with her role as an investment specialist, she combines her two passions: investments and working with people. In the office, she is seen as the ‘pun master’. Outside of the office she loves mountain biking and calls the Kruger National Park her second home.

Carmen Scheepers

Investment/Broker Consultant

With a Master’s Degree in Economics and a diverse background spanning academia, logistics and finance, Carmen’s journey before New Road Capital was rich with learning and growth. From nurturing young minds as a junior lecturer at North West University, Mahikeng Campus, to analysing business dynamics in the freight forwarding industry, and serving as an independent financial advisor, each role sculpted Carmen’s expertise and honed her skills. Now as an Investment Broker Consultant at New Road Capital, Carmen thrives by leveraging an innate gift for socializing to enhance client relationships and partner experiences. Outside the boardroom, Carmen can be found engrossed in books or tending to her garden, with family always at the forefront of her priorities.

Mikayla Deruyter

Investment/Broker Consultant

With a Bcom in Financial Management and Accounting, she has always had a knack for numbers and an eye for detail. Her career has been centered around sales, where her analytical mind and competitive spirit find the perfect playground. Beyond the spreadsheets and sales goals, Miks is a creative soul who loves fashion and design. Family is her greatest support system, and their importance in her life cannot be overstated. She believes in finding joy in the little things and making every detail count.

Stephan Marx

Investment/Broker Consultant

Stephan studied for a BSc in Data Science and Business Analytics at North-West University. This ignited his passion for finance, specifically shares and investments. His love for meeting new people and discussing the latest financial markets makes for a perfect combination in his role as an investment specialist. Growing up in Pretoria and spending many years living abroad in Saudi Arabia developed his love for exploring new countries and learning about new cultures. After exploring many countries, he became a real “foodie” and now enjoys spending his free time cooking and traveling with his wife.

Zandeleigh Taute

Operations & Compliance Administrator

As one of the first members to join New Road, Zandeleigh played an integral role in creating the culture that New Road is known for today. As part of the administration team she takes pride in ensuring that tasks and events run smoothly and are thoroughly enjoyed by all. Outside of work you will find her spending time with family and fur baby, Lilly.
